What Actually Happens in Wealthy Web Designer Academy Design Office Hours?

I think one of the most underrated things you can have when you’re learning a creative skill is access to this sentence:

“Okay. Here’s what I made. What am I missing?”

Because information is everywhere now.

You can watch YouTube videos about typography.

You can Google conversion strategy.

You can find tutorials for Showit and Squarespace.

You can ask AI why your layout looks weird.

What those things cannot always do is sit across from you, look at the exact thing you designed, understand what you were trying to accomplish, and say:

Move this. Keep that. This is where you’re losing me. And for the love of God, stop redesigning the button.

That’s a huge part of what I do during Design Office Hours inside Wealthy Web Designer Academy.

You’re not bringing me a hypothetical website

This is what makes live feedback different.

Students aren’t asking me:

“What makes a good homepage?”

They’re saying:

“Morgan, here is my homepage.”

Now we can actually work.

Maybe your hero section isn’t telling me what you do quickly enough.

Maybe the layout is technically fine but there’s no hierarchy, so my eye has no idea where to go.

Maybe the design is cute, but the client you want to attract is supposed to be paying $5,000 and the brand still feels like a beginner portfolio.

Maybe you’re using six fonts because every font individually felt like a good idea.

Maybe your desktop site looks incredible and your mobile site looks like it has recently been through something.

Bring it in.

We’ll look at it.

Good feedback is specific

One thing I’m very intentional about during Office Hours is not giving students vague feedback like:

“Make it more elevated.”

Okay.

How?

What does that mean?

I want you to understand what isn’t working and why.

Maybe you need more breathing room.

Maybe the typography needs contrast.

Maybe the call to action is getting buried.

Maybe everything is centered and your website has started looking like one extremely long wedding invitation.

Maybe your imagery isn’t supporting the positioning.

Maybe we have a strategic problem disguised as a design problem.

That distinction matters.

Because my goal isn’t only to make the website I’m looking at better.

I want you to become a better designer because we looked at it together.

The Academy specifically includes live design feedback and support for students rather than leaving them to interpret everything by themselves.

Sometimes the feedback is: stop.

This might actually be one of the most valuable things I tell students.

You are done.

😂

Creative people can absolutely design a good idea to death.

We start changing things because we have been staring at them too long.

Suddenly you hate the font.

Then you hate the colors.

Then maybe the niche is wrong.

Maybe the entire business needs to change.

Ma’am.

You needed to publish the website.

There is a point where another three hours of tweaking is not improving the project.

It’s procrastination wearing a cute outfit.

Having someone else look at the work can help you know the difference.

Sometimes I will tell you what needs to change.

Sometimes I will tell you exactly what I would try.

And sometimes I’m going to say:

This is good. Stop touching it. Go get the client.

This is why I think live feedback matters so much for new designers

There is a stage when you’re learning design where you know something feels wrong but you don’t yet have enough experience to name the problem.

That’s normal.

Your eye is developing.

Your taste might actually be ahead of your technical ability.

You know what good design feels like, but you haven’t completely figured out how to consistently create it yourself yet.

Feedback shortens that gap.

You start noticing patterns.

“Oh, I always make everything too small.”

“Oh, my sections don’t have enough contrast.”

“Oh, I keep designing for myself instead of the client’s audience.”

“Ohhhh. THAT is what hierarchy means.”

Those little realizations compound.

And eventually you don’t need me to point them out because you see them yourself.

That’s the goal.

But Design Office Hours isn’t the only support you’re getting

This is something I really want women considering the Academy to understand.

You’re not joining for one coaching call.

The Academy is designed to help students learn both strategy and design, develop a business capable of attracting clients, and eventually build more long-term income from those skills.

So during the week, you have different spaces for different problems.

Need help actually executing what you’re learning?

That’s where I see you in Implementation Lab.

Need to think through your marketing, offers, positioning, pricing, or business growth?

That’s Willow’s Marketing Room.

Need someone to open the website and tell you why the damn thing feels weird?

Hi.

Design Office Hours.

That combination matters because building a profitable design business requires more than becoming good at making websites.

You need the skill.

You need the business.

You need the marketing.

And you need to actually implement all of it.

This is the support I wish I’d had

When I originally took Becca’s courses years ago, I learned a ton from the education.

But I didn’t have this version of the room.

If I was unsure about a design, I figured it out.

If I was stuck, I worked through it.

If I wanted another designer’s perspective, I had to find one.

And honestly, learning that way built a lot of resilience in me.

But now that I sit in Office Hours every week and watch a student bring me something she has been stuck on for days—and sometimes we solve it in five minutes—I think:

Girl. We could have saved younger Morgan so much time.

That’s why I care about this call.

It isn’t about me making your website for you.

It’s about making sure you don’t have to become a great designer entirely in isolation.
